Crypto Market Analysis for Beginners: Looking at Macro Data (Inflation, Interest Rate) to Determine Trends

The crypto market is volatile and unpredictable, but there are events outside of the crypto space that heavily influences the performance of the market. If you are unsure of how the market will react, it always helps to take a step back and look at the bigger picture, which in this case is the macroeconomic data.

Why Technical Analysis and Narratives are Not Enough

A lot of people use technical analysis and narratives to determine future price movements. For example, traders would use chart patterns, trading ranges, and technical indicators to determine bullish or bearish trends. On the other hand, investors with a more fundamental approach tend to capitalize on rising narratives in the crypto industry, such as the upcoming Ethereum Shanghai Upgrade causing liquid staking derivatives to pump or halving events for Bitcoin.

These can be effective strategies, but not always reliable because there are larger forces at play. When the Ethereum Merge came in September, everyone expected ETH to surge in price because of the hype. But the crypto market was under pressure from macroeconomic factors causing broader investment market volatility rather than negative reactions from investors. This was when inflation and interest rate was at its highest for the year, affecting not only the crypto market but other financial markets as well.

How Do Macro Data Influence the Crypto Market?

As we have seen in 2022, short term speculation has been significantly influenced by macroeconomics. Since crypto is not widely adopted yet, it is still treated as a speculative asset. As such, Bitcoin’s price movement tend to mirror Nasdaq tech stocks, despite its vision of decoupling from the stock market. It is important not to underestimate macro data as they affect all financial markets. These are some of the common macro data to look out for when analyzing the market.

    U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI)

Inflation is measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI). It is a key economic metric based on prices that consumers pay for goods and services throughout the U.S. economy. When CPI is high, it means that prices for goods and services have risen, indicating inflation. Essentially, high inflation erodes the purchasing power of fiat currencies, meaning that individuals have less buying power for goods and services.

As a result, inflationary pressures can cause market volatility, as people are more likely to save money for daily necessities and reduce their exposure to risky investments such as crypto. But as shown in the image below, the inflation rate and CPI are cooling off in 2023, which means that the worst is already behind us.

    Source: cnbc.com

    Federal Interest Rate

The federal interest rate, also known as the federal funds rate, is the benchmark interest rate set by the Federal Reserve (the central bank of the United States) for overnight lending between banks. It is measured in basis points (bps), describing the percentage change in the interest rate. One basis point is equal to 0.01%. It is an important tool used by the Fed to influence the overall level of interest rates in the economy and to affect the supply of credit.

The fed rate goes hand-in-hand with CPI and inflation rate. If the Federal Reserve raises interest rates, it becomes more expensive to borrow money. This affects businesses in particular, and shifts the investment landscape from risk-on to risk-off, reducing the demand for stocks and crypto alike.

Although CPI and inflation has been cooling off in 2023, it is not guaranteed that the Fed will scale back to 25 bps. According to Bloomberg, broader analysis of economic and financial conditions would favor the Fed raising rates by 50 bps. This could result in a stock market dip, which also affects the crypto market.

    Supply Chain

The supply chain refers to the series of industries involved in the production, delivery, and distribution of goods and services worldwide. They are key indicators of global economic activities. Strong economic growth can increase demand for cryptocurrencies, as investors seek alternative investments in a growing market. On the other hand, weak economic growth or disruptions in the supply chain can reduce demand for cryptocurrencies and impact their price.

As of 2023, the supply chain is slowly recovering as the COVID pandemic is dying down. With the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT, supply chain leaders are focusing on automation, robotics and sustainability to improve manufacturing and solve labor cost problems. As such, shipping costs and gas prices have gone down. But there are still some areas struggling with shortages and bottlenecks, leading to bankruptcies and unemployment. For more information, Forbes has published an article sharing their insight on supply chain trends in 2023.

    US Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

Out of all countries, the US seems to have been the dominating narrative in what has affected the price action of the crypto market. This could be related to the US CPI and Fed interest rates. While the US GDP does not have a direct affect on crypto prices, it can indirectly impact crypto prices by affecting the overall economy, consumer confidence, and market sentiment.

A strong US economy may increase consumer confidence and investment, potentially leading to an increase in crypto prices. Conversely, a weak economy may lead to a decrease in consumer confidence and investment, potentially leading to a decrease in crypto prices.

    Housing Market

The housing market can affect crypto prices indirectly, as changes in the housing market can impact the overall economy and consumer confidence. A strong housing market can boost consumer confidence and lead to an increase in investment, potentially resulting in an increase in crypto prices.

On the other hand, a weak housing market can dampen consumer confidence and lead to a decrease in investment, potentially leading to a decrease in crypto prices. However, it is important to note that the relationship between the housing market and crypto prices is not direct and can vary depending on various other factors such as interest rates, economic policy, and global events.

As of 2023, the supply chain recovery has helped bring back inventory of single family homes on the market, and has increased the supply side as well. But with mortgage rates increasing, it is unlikely there will be an increase in demand for housing any time soon. Therefore, it is highly likely there will be a housing market correction, but we do not know if it is going to small or big.

    Oil Prices

Energy has been a critical factor in the economic turmoil and increased inflation in the past year, and it has mainly come from oil prices. With the ongoing war in Ukraine, many people were fearful of a major worldwide energy crisis this winter. Although there was an energy crisis in Europe, it was not as bad as predicted. Meanwhile, oil prices dropped from $120 to $80 as a result of CPI and inflation rate cooling off.

    Key Takeaway

Macroeconomic data is important for crypto prices because it can provide insight into the health and stability of the overall economy, which can impact investor confidence and market sentiment. This, in turn, can affect demand for cryptocurrencies and ultimately their prices. Macroeconomic data such as GDP, inflation, interest rates, employment figures, and trade balances can all provide a broader understanding of the economic environment, helping traders and investors make informed decisions about the crypto market. Additionally, changes in macroeconomic conditions can also impact the supply and demand of cryptocurrencies, affecting their prices.

  • Top Common Myths About NFTs Debunked

Top Common Myths About NFTs Debunked

NFTs have become one of the most exciting trends in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space. With many existing projects and more in the works, crypto enthusiasts now consider NFTs as potentially rewarding and an attractive asset. These specialized assets have generated a lot of media hype, speculation, and commendable value for the greater crypto and blockchain ecosystem.

However, many people are still unaware of the specifics which make NFTs work such as minting, applications, and their general significance towards the crypto and traditional sectors. People also don’t know what to make of the trend, and whether or not they should participate in the hype. As popular as they are, NFTs suffer from the effects of many widespread myths and misconceptions, making these assets some of the most misunderstood in the finance and blockchain sector.

    What are NFTs?

NFTs (non-fungible tokens) are digital assets with uniquely verifiable qualities contained in their metadata. These tokens function as a popular and effective way to represent traditional or blockchain assets because they are non-fungible, meaning they cannot be freely interchanged in a one-to-one manner, duplicated, or forged. Once created, NFTs are permanently etched on the blockchain’s public ledger and are visible by all nodes on the blockchain. The unique nature of NFTs affords them significant utility across various sectors.

While the principle behind NFTs has real-world applications, these assets are still in their infancy. Many people, including crypto enthusiasts, are still only aware of the myths and misconceptions created by mainstream media and do not fully understand these assets which can have huge potential. Here are some of the most widespread myths about NFTs and the truths behind them.

Click here for our in-depth explainer on what are NFTs.

Myth #1 – NFTs Are a Kind of Cryptocurrency

The biggest misconception is that NFTs are a kind of cryptocurrency. Although they are both developed on blockchains, the critical difference is their fungibility. Cryptocurrencies are fungible assets traded only by an asset with the same value. For example, Ethereum’s Ether (ETH) token is only tradable if exchanged for other ETH or another cryptocurrency with the same exact value. On the other hand, each NFT has a unique value and cannot be replaced with another. One Ether is always worth the same as any other Ether, but the same cannot be said about NFTs, making them a digital asset, not a currency.

Myth #2 – NFTs Are Harmful to the Environment

Since creators mint NFTs on energy-intensive blockchains, many people think they are harmful to the environment. However, this is not the case. People are now using the more energy-efficient Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain protocol instead of the Proof-of-Work (PoW) protocol, which is more energy-intensive.

Click here to learn more about Proof of Work vs Proof of Stake.

    Myth #3 – NFTs Don’t Have Value

Another common misconception about NFTs is that they do not have any value. On the contrary, am NFT derives true and inherent value from the underlying blockchain technology that enables the ownership, transparency, and security of digital assets.

The utility of NFTs transcends digital artwork, avatars, and collectibles. For example, certain NFTs offer holders various uses and benefits ranging from VIP concert passes to private dinner reservations. Additionally, NFTs are applicable in the real estate sector to transfer land deeds or verify ownership.

Myth #4 – NFTs Are Easily Copied and Forged

A common issue with digital collectibles is validating their authenticity and rarity, mainly to prevent the sale of counterfeit or pirated items. This is a problem that blockchain technology quickly solves.

A blockchain maintains a series of public transactions across different computers or nodes. Each node “witnesses” all transactions to ensure that they are all 100% authentic. With NFTs, the blockchain creates a clear chain of ownership making collectors confident that their NFT is the one-and-only “original,” also ensuring that buyers can verify authenticity before exchanging money.

Myth #5 – NFTs Encourage Scams and Money Laundering

Many still commonly believe that blockchain assets are for criminals and tax defaulters. However, cash is still much more utilized for nefarious purposes and crime-driven than cryptocurrencies and NFTs. All transactions on the blockchain are completely transparent and easily trackable if there is a need to detect fraudulent activity. Furthermore, in some cases, it is also possible to recover stolen funds from scams or money laundering.

Myth #6 – Buying an NFT Means Owning the Intellectual Property

This myth is more of a technical misconception. Owning an NFT does not automatically give ownership of the underlying asset or its intellectual property rights. Unless otherwise stated, ownership of the intellectual property stays with the creator of the NFT. Even after the purchase, buyers or collectors do not have the right to use the NFT outside the scope outlined by the creator. Think of it as a collectable book or movie; just because you purchase it doesn’t mean you have the right to reproduce or monetize the intellectual property.

Myth #7 – NFTs Are Just a Fad

Like the internet, many people thought NFTs would not catch on or only find applications for illicit activity. Some also believe that these tokens are just hype and will suddenly disappear, leaving many people holding worthless assets. However, given the many possible use cases, NFTs are unlikely to disappear.

We can see that NFTs are not dead or just a fad from the launch of video game retailer GameStop’s NFT marketplace. GameStop launched its NFT marketplace on 12th July 2022, ahead of its initial anticipated release after hinting at this for over a year. GameStop has in May 2022 already released its digital asset wallet for users to store, send and receive cryptocurrencies and NFTs in anticipation for this marketplace launch.

The launch of GameStop’s NFT marketplace also appears to be a success, with trade volumes exceeding US$1mil (over 1,028 ETH) in 24 hours. Commentators on Twitter also suggest that GameStop’s launch was even more successful than that of the Coinbase NFT marketplace, since GameStop’s trade volume in 24 hours was equivalent to 60% of Coinbase NFT marketplace’s entire lifetime sales.

    Conclusion: NFT Myths?

NFTs are here to stay and are slowly gaining massive traction across the crypto space. Although popularity is on the rise as creators are continuously minting new ones every day, crypto enthusiasts worldwide still need to stay informed about utility to better understand the technology, how it works, and how creators can sustain the NFT market well into the future.

  • 7 Ways to Profit During a Crypto Bear Market

7 Ways to Profit During a Crypto Bear Market

All financial markets experience different cycles and market conditions. Since crypto asset prices also go through prolonged periods of bullish and bearish movements, the crypto market is no exception. The most dreaded market phase for crypto traders and investors is a declining or bearish phase, especially one that sustains itself for a long time.

General sentiments regarding the crypto and other financial markets are bleak during these periods, making many investors and crypto enthusiasts understandably worried. However, many traders still find ways to make money during unfavourable market conditions. To earn when the market is down, it is important to understand the concept of a bear market.

Check out our video comparing the crypto bear market in 2018 vs 2022, and how you can still profit during this period of downward price trends:

What Is a Crypto Bear Market?

A bear or bearish market is a prolonged period characterized by falling prices of at least 20% across major crypto assets. Individual crypto assets may also be in a bear market if they experience a decline of 20% or more over an extended period. A bear market may occur due to widespread pessimism and negative market sentiment, as well as other internal or external factors. Additionally, a weak or slowing economy, pandemics, wars, and geopolitical crises are also characteristics that may cause a bear market.

7 Ways to Make Money and Profit in a Crypto Bear Market

Even when the market is in an overall downtrend, the blockchain and DeFi sector offers various ways for crypto traders and investors to still emerge profitable and victorious. Here are a few lucrative options that crypto investors and traders can utilize to make money and remain afloat in a bearish market phase.

    Yield Farming

Yield Farming is a cryptocurrency investment method that allows investors to earn interest and rewards on their crypto assets. With yield farming, investors lend their crypto assets to DeFi platforms that hold these assets in a liquidity pool for a specified period. These pools provide liquidity to decentralized finance platforms that use the funds and ensure that the depositors earn some interest over time.

For those who are new, check out our video on the top yield farming mistakes all newbies make:

    Crypto Staking

Staking is the process of earning rewards by locking up funds on a blockchain. Although similar to yield farming, this process does not use tokens for loans. Instead, Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchains use staking to validate transactions on their networks.

Learn more in our article: Proof of Stake explained

Users who stake more tokens get higher priority to validate transactions and earn more funds. Earnings from asset staking vary between platforms and depend on the governance community in each case. Before getting involved in yield farming or staking, always do your own research and make sure the returns are sustainable, as many times, there are ludicrous and unsustainable offerings that result in users losing all of their funds.

    Crypto Savings and Crypto Lending

Savings and lending are good ways to make passive income from crypto during a bear market. These methods involve storing assets on a platform to earn simple interest on the deposits. Traders should remember that potential earnings mainly depend on the amount stored. Again, do your own research before allocating any capital to these types of platforms.

    Forks and Airdrops

Altcoin forks and airdrops are also effective ways to make money in a bear market. A fork happens when users vote to diverge a blockchain and form another due to a material disagreement. This process leads to an airdrop where holders of the old token get the new tokens to participate in the forked blockchain. Depending on the value of the forked token, users can earn quite a bit by simply holding newly acquired tokens. (Modafinil)

    Margin Trading

One of the most common ways to make money in a down-trending market is margin trading. This method is simply the process of trading crypto assets with funds from brokers. Margin trading allows users to trade with more money than they have in their accounts, thereby increasing potential profit. Although margin trading is an effective way to earn in a bear market, this method is only recommended to experienced crypto traders, as you can lose the entirety of your initial capital if the market moves in the opposite direction of your call.

    Analyze Smaller DeFi Projects

A new DeFi project may have a low valuation after launch, but show huge promise in the long run. Crypto enthusiasts who take the time to analyze and research these projects can likely find and profit from the right ones. Even in a bear market, crypto investors who get in early enough tend to make gains from the increase in the asset prices of these crypto projects.

    Dollar-Cost Averaging

One of the most effective ways to thrive in a bear market is to buy the dip. With dollar-cost averaging, investors buy assets at consistent intervals and properly observe market conditions before reinvesting. Since the cryptocurrency market’s volatility is unpredictable, it is nearly impossible to predict the lowest point before a reversal. Hence, dollar-cost averaging helps investors maximize profits by allowing them to buy at low points before the market becomes bullish. You lower your risk by lowering your potential downside and upside, but also allocating capital in a way where you will not only hit peaks and troughs.

    Next Steps

Any crypto market condition has potential for profitability if you know how to play it right. The above strategies can help even novice crypto traders earn when the market is bearish. However, traders should note that their preferred strategy should depend on their risk tolerance and portfolio size. Traders should also learn to study the market to ensure that the chosen method will be effective at a particular time.

  • STEPN Guide and Review

    STEPN Guide and Review

STEPN is the most popular move-to-earn blockchain game in the crypto market this year after some significant adoption by the market and big moves with other major exchanges and well-known sneaker brands.

Move-to-earn is a new way to earn money through gaming with the novelty that it rewards not only digital activity within a game or app, but also physical activity. In short, the more you move in the real world, the more you are rewarded in your digital app.

STEPN has been crushing it lately after surpassing 300K daily active users (DAUs), receiving a strategic investment from the venture capital arm of Binance, and launching a unique collection of NFT sneakers on Binance NFT marketplace in partnership with sports brand ASICS.

    What is STEPN?

STEPN is a move-to-earn health and fitness app with game elements built on Solana. Users equipped with sneaker NFTs can run and walk outdoors to earn tokens and NFT rewards. The funds earned can either be used to increase earnings in the app or can be withdrawn and sold. The mobile app has a built-in wallet, swap, marketplace, and rental system that allows non-crypto users to onboard.

    How does STEPN work?

Anybody can earn tokens and NFTs in STEPN by downloading an app, buying NFT sneakers, and completing various forms of exercise. Similar to how Bitcoin mining works, users in STEPN have to prove they have physically worked out, at the cost of their own time and energy. This is validated by the app’s anti-cheating mechanics using GPS and machine-learning technology.

The tokens and NFTs are then minted to users’ wallets from the people, not from the game developer FindSatoshi Lab, known for its work on cryptocurrency wallet Solwallet. In this way, people can trade their tokens and NFTs 100% peer-to-peer and over time. STEPN has created an ecosystem where the value of tokens and NFTs is based on supply and demand.

    STEPN tokens: GMT and GST

There are two types of tokens available to players, GMT (total supply of 6 billion) and GST (unlimited supply). GMT is a management token that allows users to increase their income. GST is an in-game token that users receive for in-game activity.

To create a balanced token ecosystem, the developers have decided not to limit the GMT governance token earning to a small group of people. Instead, they have made GMT and GST broadly accessible to ensure balance in the mining of these two tokens.

Since many GameFi projects with a similar dual-token economy have tended not to thrive, the question is raised about whether GST, with its unlimited supply, will go into a death spiral. STEPN’s model addresses this by making GST earning irrelevant at a higher level. As people approach the higher levels, they are presented with the option to choose which token to earn, and they would naturally want to earn the limited supply of GMT.

This will get amplified over time as more GMT is burned and more GMT use cases are released. This should reduce the GST token supply enough to balance the token value. If too many people are mining GMT, they will earn less than what they can with GST, so they will switch to earning GST. This will reduce the competition for earning GMT, and, in turn, make GMT mining profitable again.

    Getting started with STEPN

To get started with STEPN, you must first download the app to your smartphone via Google Play or Apple Store. Then, following the on-screen instructions, you will need to create an account and receive an activation code.

You will be able to use the app fully once you have purchased your NFT sneakers from the in-app STEPN shop. Choose your sneakers based on your abilities. Once you have purchased the sneakers, open the game and start walking or running. You will start earning immediately.

How to join STEPN: Step-by-step guide

    1. Download the App

First, you have to install the app on your smartphone. Depending on the model of your phone, you can do this either from the App Store or from Google Play.

    2. Create an Account

After launching the app, you will need to enter your email address, to which you will receive a registration confirmation code. Enter your email address and press the ‘Send Code’ button. A code will be sent to your email address, and you will need to enter it in the corresponding field.

    3. Obtain Activation Code

You then need to obtain an app activation code. To obtain the activation code, register in the STEPN community on one of the official social networks. Choose the social network that suits you best (Twitter, Telegram, Discord, etc.) and proceed according to the on-screen prompts. An activation code can also be received from a friend via invitation or bought from another user.

Once you have received the activation code, the main app screen will open. Click on the ‘Get activation code’ button. After you have entered your activation code, the app will open and the tutorial will start. Several screens will explain to you how to use the app.

    4. Create a Crypto Wallet

You then need to create a crypto wallet in the STEPN app. Click on the wallet image in the top-right corner of the app. This will start the process of creating a crypto wallet, which will take a couple of minutes. While creating the wallet, you will be shown a secret phrase that you need to write down and keep in a safe place. Once the crypto wallet has been created, you will be taken back to the main app screen.

    5. Start the Game

In the top-right corner, the token column will show zeros. To start the game, you need to deposit Solana (SOL) tokens into the crypto wallet you just created, in the amount that will allow you to purchase an NFT in the form of a sneaker. SOL can be bought on almost any major CEX or DEX.

    6. Buy NFT Sneakers

TIP: Before you buy sneakers in STEPN, open the app and run for 10 minutes in running mode without sneakers. This is so that you can find the right type of sneaker for you. NFT sneakers are purchased in the shop. After buying the sneakers, wait until 25% of the energy has accumulated (approximately 6 hours) and then start the game. You are now ready to move-to-earn!

    Playing and Moving to Earn

STEPN currently has solo mode only, in which users receive GST tokens as a reward for moving in the real world. This consumes virtual energy at a rate of 1 unit per 5 minutes of movement. All of these processes are only triggered after the purchase of NFT trainers. If the energy is at zero, no tokens are earned.

GST tokens, and subsequently GMT, are paid out depending on the following factors:

    • The level and attributes of NFT sneakers – more efficient sneakers cost more. Up until Level 29, users can only earn GST, and from Level 30 onwards, they can switch to earning GMT if they wish.
    • Sneaker comfort parameter – the higher it is, the more tokens are earned every minute.
    • Running speed – it is necessary to maintain the recommended speed range for the sneaker. If you deviate too much from it, earnings will be reduced by up to 90%.

Marathon and background modes are set to be added later. Marathon mode will be an entirely new playstyle and is aimed for release towards the end of 2022. Background mode will be added when the STEPN team feels the time is right to approach non-crypto users.

    The Importance of Energy

Energy plays an important role in earning tokens in STEPN. As soon as you run out of energy, your earnings will stop. Only when energy is available will your movement be rewarded. The amount of energy determines how many tokens you can earn for walking and running.

To increase the amount of energy you have, you can buy more NFT sneakers or get hold of rarer ones. The more NFT sneakers you own in your inventory, the more energy they will automatically generate. Higher levels and rarity sneakers will give you more energy.

    Strengths of STEPN

One of STEPN’s biggest strengths in the current market is the successful combination and implementation of GameFi and sports. This could be seen as a clear advantage over any competition as many crypto-native builders don’t have the connections or knowledge to replicate STEPN’s GPS technology and machine-learning anti-cheating mechanics.

Because the health concept of the game and its everyday practicality is relatively simple compared to other games and apps in crypto, STEPN is a prime candidate for mainstream adoption.

    Weaknesses of STEPN

There are still quite large barriers to entry for the average person. The registration process is too complicated, and to start playing, new users need to first learn how to open and fund a crypto wallet and buy an NFT item. For a newbie, this is not as straightforward as it should be.

NFTs also cost between 2.5 and 10 SOL, and way upwards of $100 if you want the best sneakers. This means there is an element of ‘pay-to-earn’ about STEPN. However, at the moment, the return on investment (ROI) is in the region of a few weeks, which is not bad at all.

    Conclusion

Making money while keeping healthy is a win-win, and as a sports GameFi product, STEPN has struck a decent balance between game elements that are not too rich and complex to stop non-gamers from entering, and sports elements that are not too difficult to stop non-athletic people from trying it out.

The tokenomics also create value for both users and the platform. As long as the concept remains simple and participating remains profitable for the average user, STEPN should continue its impressive adoption rate.

  • The Pros and Cons of Stablecoins: Why You Need To Know How They Work

The Pros and Cons of Stablecoins: Why You Need To Know How They Work

Stablecoins are under the microscope right now following the collapse of Luna and UST, the stablecoin of the Terra ecosystem.

In this article, we look at the history of stablecoins, its pros and cons, why they are needed, and what are the risks are of utilizing them.

    What is a Stablecoin?

A stablecoin is a cryptocurrency that maintains a fixed value because it is backed by reserves of other assets such as fiat currencies, securities, gold or precious metals, property, or any other assets as collateral.

There are four main types of stablecoins:

    • Fiat-Collateralized: Fiat-backed stablecoins are backed by real-world currencies such as US Dollars or British Pounds at a 1:1 ratio.
    • Commodity-Backed: Backed by precious commodities like gold, platinum, or real estate.
    • Crypto-Backed: Backed by other cryptocurrencies which are kept as a reserve to ensure price stability in the event of price fluctuations. Smart contracts can also be coded to ensure no trust is needed in third parties.
    • Algorithmic: These involve adjustments in the algorithm for controlling the supply and demand of stablecoins, usually in the form of two tokens: one a stablecoin and the other a cryptocurrency that backs the stablecoin.

Cryptocurrencies are decentralized and not controlled by centralized entities such as governments or regulatory bodies. They operate on supply-and-demand principles in a free market and can be volatile in nature.

Simply put, stablecoins allow investors and traders to ‘cash out’ of risky investments into another crypto coin that will not fluctuate wildly in value during times of market volatility.

    History of Stablecoins

Stablecoins actually have a very long history, having been around since 2014 with BitUSD. BitUSD was created in July 2014 backed by the $BTS token and created by Dan Larimer and Charles Hoskinson, both pioneers in the cryptocurrency who went on to create EOS and Cardano ($ADA), respectively.

However, even the world’s first stablecoin was not without its issues. In late 2018, BitUSD lost its peg to the US Dollar, resulting in huge criticism from the cryptocurrency community. BitUSD is no longer commonly used, and many cryptocurrency exchanges no longer support this stablecoin.

The next stablecoin to be launched was NuBits in September 2014 and was functional for 3 years. Eventually, this stablecoin also fell- suffering 2 major crashes during which the peg was broken for an extended period of time. The first of these crashes was in 2016 when NuBits was depegged from the US Dollar for 3 months. This was likely because holders of NuBits suddenly sold their substantial holdings for Bitcoin, resulting in NuBits being unable to handle the large volumes of sell-offs and losing its peg. Surprisingly, after the 2016 crash, the marketcap of NuBits shot up by 1,500%. This was caused by people buying millions worth of NuBits in late December 2017 owing to concerns about the stability of Bitcoin, whilst the NuBits team was unable to print new coins to keep up with the demand, thereby driving up prices.

The second, and final major crash suffered by NuBits was in March 2018 which was caused by insufficient reserves of the coin, meaning that the NuBits team were unable to protect the coin when there was a dip in demand. Of course, large cryptocurrency holders immediately noticed the drop in NuBits prices and panic sold their positions, causing an even greater slide in price.

After the second NuBits depeg, the stablecoin had lost credibility with cryptocurrency investors. Some holders even threatened legal action against the NuBits team or went into Tether ($USDT) and/or TrueUSD instead.

Tether $USDT however has also weathered a few storms of its own, facing legal battles with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which also shook the confidence of the market. The legal action was eventually settled in 2021 with the parent company of Tether paying nearly US$60 million.

Despite this, cryptocurrency keeps evolving with each passing year as new innovations that were once met with speculation and distrust eventually become trusted by the market. Today there are many other stablecoin options out there such as USD Coin (USDC), Binance USD (BUSD), MakerDAO (DAI), Paxos Standard (PAX), and Gemini Dollar (GUSD) that provide alternatives to USDT.

    Pros of Stablecoins

There are several reasons and numerous benefits to using stablecoins. In general, they are simply faster, cheaper, transparent, borderless, and programmable compared to fiat currencies. Some more benefits are listed below.

    1. Stablecoins allow a quicker and easier way for investors to enter the crypto market by bridging fiat into stablecoins, which act like fiat currencies on exchanges.
    1. Stablecoins are more efficient than fiat because they have the digital properties of other crypto tokens and can be moved around quicker and more efficiently than fiat money.
    1. Stablecoins can be held as capital in non-custodial wallets such as Metamask, thus removing the need for third parties to intermediate.
    1. Stablecoins allow for quicker, immediate peer-to-peer payments abroad that are semi-anonymous with much lower fees than fiat currencies.
    1. Stablecoins can be used for holding, trading, borrowing, and lending abroad. When fiat-related regulatory processes are involved, even better.
    1. Stablecoins can be staked to earn a higher yield than traditional finance in DeFi applications. When adding liquidity to protocols, they also minimize the risk of impermanent loss due to their price stability.
    1. Blockchain data and tracking allows for a more transparent view of the market, giving investors more information on liquidity flows and thus greater decision-making power.
    1. Many sectors of the economy and the unbanked population are benefiting from the use of stablecoins in remittance, escrow, payroll, settlement, and alternative banking that is self-custodial, cutting out intermediaries.

    Cons of Stablecoins

Stablecoins used to be more controversial in the earlier days of crypto but have garnered more regulatory approval in recent years, minimizing many of the negative aspects.

    1. Stablecoins usually require trust in a third party to ensure the coins are backed by the stated assets, which also means external audits are needed to ensure assets are accounted for.
    1. There are lower yields on stablecoins in DeFi applications than on regular cryptos, however, these yields are still significantly higher than the interest rates offered by traditional banks.
    1. Stablecoins utilized in DeFi applications are subject to the usual risks involved with unregulated cryptocurrency projects. The TerraLuna disaster was a perfect example of an extreme worst-case scenario for an algorithmic stablecoin.
    1. Trial and error. Due to the relative infancy of stablecoins and the experimental nature of new technologies within crypto, there is still a risk when getting involved with newer projects or protocols.
    1. Regulatory scrutiny. As the stablecoin market keeps growing and adding billions of dollars in value to the crypto market, it will generate increased interest from authorities. This can also be seen as a positive.

    Conclusion

Stablecoins and their rapid proliferation across all blockchain protocols have brought more flexibility and adoption to the cryptocurrency industry. They are now embedded in the fabric of the market and are here to stay.

The onus remains on the individual investor to do your own research (DYOR) when deciding which stablecoin to hold. Find out who created it, whether it’s a trusted centralized business or a decentralized protocol managed by smart contracts. All the options are open to you when it comes to the safer management of risk in the crypto market.

  • Dotmoovs ($MOOV): Competitive Sports in the Metaverse

Dotmoovs ($MOOV): Competitive Sports in the Metaverse

Blockchain and play-to-earn games are rapidly becoming some of the most lucrative aspects of the crypto world. Players of these games get rewarded for partaking in their favorite activities while contributing to the platform’s success story. For instance, Sky Mavis – the team behind Axie Infinity – had generated over $400 million from the game by August 2021. According to Newswagg’s research, the crypto gaming industry’s revenue hit $321 million in 2020.

Notwithstanding the play-to-earn industry’s impressive numbers, there is an ongoing shift from play-to-earn to the new move-to-earn. Sometimes considered an upgrade to the former, move-to-earn also offers rewards to players with more focus on fitness. Move-to-earn games help improve player well-being by introducing physical movement and general fitness into gameplay. The move-to-earn concept is fantastic for people who are more fitness-focused and are not as ardent as the average video gamer.

One such example is dotmoovs ($MOOV), where active participants can easily monetize their time and gameplay. To take part, players only need a smartphone camera to display their sports skills and compete with other players.

    What is dotmoovs ($MOOV)?

dotmoovs is a blockchain-based competitive sports platform in the metaverse. It is a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence system that analyzes videos of players performing sporting activities and rewards winners using its proprietary MOOV tokens.

dotmoovs has incorporated blockchain tech, decentralized finance (DeFi), and AI technology into one platform through its peer-to-peer and AI-driven features. In the dotmoovs metaverse, two people can compete regardless of location, receive unbiased judgment, and earn rewards. The platform decides scores using an AI-driven arbitration engine that detects the positions of each player’s body and limbs, along with a scoring algorithm that measures the player’s skill. According to a recent metaverse ranking, dotmoovs is one of 10 metaverse platforms most likely to explode in 2022. The list also features popular names like Decentraland ($MANA) and Axie Infinity ($AXS).

The More You Move, The More You Earn

dotmoovs features a freestyle football section that is already live. Players must use the platform’s mobile application to capture physical body movements. The application uses advanced computer vision algorithms and AI-driven limb tracking to accurately capture and store movements. The player with the highest score wins the round and receives $MOOV tokens and other in-game rewards.

One of the main attractions of dotmoovs is its AI-powered and unbiased scoring system. In many cases, scores and ratings are usually prone to subjective appraisals and human biases. However, each dotmoovs player gets a fair chance to participate and receive objective scores and judgment. The more skilful a player is, the more their earning power.

    How Does dotmoovs Scoring Work?

Participants trying out the freestyle football section should note the following factors considered for scoring players:

    1. Number of ball juggles for different body parts according to difficulty
    2. Creativity applied to ball juggles
    3. Speed
    4. Rhythm
    5. Ball height in each juggle
    6. Originality (compared to previous attempts)
    7. Absence of handball or ground touch fouls

dotmoovs Growth and Adoption for Blockchain

The dotmoovs platform contributes to the general growth and development of the blockchain and crypto ecosystem via its AI-based infrastructure. The blockchain industry is currently enjoying increased adoption, especially with decentralized finance and non-fungible tokens (NFT). dotmoovs is pooling all parts of the ecosystem for its unique product, and crowning its creation with artificial intelligence. The platform is now set to partake in the global NFT market that generated $23 billion in trading volume in 2021.

Another major dotmoovs contribution is its attraction to the sports community. Through the platform, sports lovers, players and spectators alike, can join the blockchain ecosystem and earn on dotmoovs by simply participating in their preferred and natural habitat.

Several factors serve as catalysts to increased adoption of move-to-earn platforms. For instance, people now have a stronger need for physical activities as worldwide lockdowns are ending. As winter wraps up and the weather becomes warmer, dotmoovs provides the perfect platform for users to get fit, enjoy the weather, and also earn.

Investors are also recognizing the potential impact of move-to-earn platforms and are buying in. In the past few months, a few projects have raised funds from investors who have identified these trends and want a piece of the action before adoption skyrockets.

Another factor in favor of dotmoovs and move-to-earn is the low entry barrier. Users find move-to-earn platforms easier to navigate than play-to-earn for multiple reasons. Firstly, effective participation on play-to-earn platforms requires knowledge of the game. There is also the financial barrier as many of these games charge an entry or starting fee. On dotmoovs, all you need is to know how to move.

    $MOOV Utility Token

The $MOOV token is dotmoovs’ native utility asset. The platform uses this asset to create an environment free from currency value constraints, democratizing access by providing all players with a level playing field. All dotmoovs transactions require $MOOV tokens.

    $MOOV Token Use Cases

    Players can use $MOOV to:

    • Buy dotmoovs NFTs

Players who own dotmoovs NFTs can participate in challenges to earn $MOOV and rent the NFTs to other players. Players can also earn $MOOV tokens on challenges won with rented NFTs.

    • Access-Challenge Mode

Users need $MOOV tokens to play in the platform’s Challenge Mode. Players who win 1 vs. 1 games or tournament challenges will also earn more tokens.

    • Stake In Sports Mining

Users can multiply their tokens and earn rewards by staking $MOOV using the dotmoovs Sports Mining staking feature.

dotmoovs is set to capture interested sportsmen and sportswomen by introducing them to the growing blockchain ecosystem. Since people only need a camera to participate, players all over the world can enjoy simple dancing and sporting activities and easily earn while at it.

    Dotmoovs exclusive models

Dotmoovs creates exclusive models for their app, and have so far already created models for names such as Snoop Dogg, Floyd Mayweather, and Neymar. Now, Dotmoovs will be partnering with Leandro Lopes, an internationally successful handmade footwear and apparel designer from Portugal, to design an exclusive NFT sneaker for use in the app.

    Dance to Earn

dootmoovs has recently launched their Dance to Earn feature on their app. Players can have a maximum of 3 free practices of the dance moves per day to get themselves ready for peer-to-peer and challenge mode! In these modes, you can either challenge your friends or find a random challenger across the globe to see who is the better dancer. To join, you will need to choose how much $MOOV you would like to invest (up to 500 $MOOV per challenge). Win the challenge and you will win more $MOOV.

It is anticipated that more types of dance challenges would be available soon, as well as a tournament mode.

  • Starly NFT Staking: How to Tutorial and Guide

Starly NFT Staking: How to Tutorial and Guide

The NFT industry has become one of the most exciting spaces amongst emerging blockchain and crypto trends. With many related projects and startups launching, the sector is becoming more popular and has provided creators with significant earning opportunities.

NFT creators constantly seek more accessible ways to publish and market their assets to varied audiences while also maximizing potential returns on their art. Buyers who like to collect NFTs also look for the best marketplace that curates these assets and facilitates easy access to purchases and rewards. The Starly platform provides all these and more to both categories of stakeholders.

    What Is Starly?

Starly is an NFT-focused launchpad and marketplace where users can create, buy, and sell gamified NFT collectables. The platform aims to make creating, selling and collecting NFTs as seamless as possible. Starly offers complete creative control to NFT minters, allowing them to set prices, rarity ratings, and decide preferred launch dates.

Each Starly NFT collection consists of 21 unique NFTs (or NFT cards) divided into three packs for ease of valuation. The packs are composed of 11 common cards, 6 rare cards, and 4 legendary cards. Members of the Starly community can purchase and sell NFT cards on the secondary market, or buy all the cards in a collection to receive special rewards reserved for buyers who acquire complete collections.

    NFT Staking on Starly

Collectors can stake their NFT cards for Starly token rewards based on the value and rarity of the NFT. Each NFT card in a collection has a Card Score determined by its pack (common, rare, or legendary) and price. Stakers can earn rewards in $STARLY- the project’s native token. The total $STARLY staking reward for each NFT card is equal to its Card Score and gets distributed daily for over a year. This means that it would take 365 days to accrue the total $STARLY staking reward.

Although users can claim a limited number of token rewards, these rewards depend on the user’s Starly token tier. Starly uses the following formula for reward distribution:

Card Score/365 = Token Amount Distributed for 24h.

For instance, if a user stakes an NFT with a Card Score of 15,000, the available token staking reward for that card is 15,000 $STARLY. The user can claim up to 41 $STARLY (15,000/365) daily depending on the membership tier until the user exhausts 15,000 $STARLY.

    Starly Token Staking Tiers

Token holders staking $STARLY are categorized into reward tiers curated according to the number of staked tokens. The tiers include the Silver, Gold, and Platinum memberships, with the following required token amounts:

    • Silver Tier: a minimum of 1000 $STARLY staked
    • Gold Tier: a minimum of 10,000 $STARLY staked
    • Platinum Tier: a minimum of 50,000 $STARLY staked

These tiers come with varying benefits, including the ability to claim more daily NFT staking rewards. Members of the Starly community who stake their NFTs but have no staked Starly tokens are not placed in any of the three tiers and can claim only 2 of the available daily token rewards. Silver, Gold, and Platinum tier members can claim 10, 100, and 500, respectively.

Furthermore, if an NFT card is unstaked, all unclaimed rewards of the staked card remain locked on the card till the user stakes it again. Additionally, if the unstaked NFT card gets sold, the new owner gets all unclaimed staking rewards locked in the card and can stake the card again for token rewards.

    $STARLY Token

$STARLY is the platform’s native token, helping creators earn from their NFT assets. On the Starly marketplace, creators can monetize their NFT collectibles and receive rewards for their effort via $STARLY tokens. The platform has a total supply of 100 million tokens allocated for different uses. For instance, the largest allocation is for the Product and Ecosystem Development Fund at 31.25% or 31,250,000 tokens. Others include 22% for the Team and Advisors, 20% for the private sale, and 0.75% for the public sale. Furthermore, Starly allocated 5% each for token liquidity and staking payouts, while reserving 16% for the community.

    Benefits Of Starly NFT Staking

All NFTs have inherent value that provides some aspect of collectibility or utility to collectors. However, collectors can derive additional value by staking these NFTs on Starly. The primary benefit of staking owned NFTs is that users can accrue more $STARLY and then re-stake for added rewards. As users collect more tokens, their designated membership tier moves from Silver to Gold or Gold to Platinum. New tiers furnish users with additional Starly benefits, such as voting rights and exclusive NFT drops from selected artists.

Staking has become a significant way of contributing to projects across the blockchain and crypto space, with billions of tokens and coins locked on many platforms. NFT staking is no different and is an excellent way for users to earn passive income from idle NFT collections. Although the concept is still relatively in its infancy, Starly opens users to more NFT staking opportunities with the possibility of progressive rewards.

  • ArcadeLand – The Ultimate Gaming Metaverse

ArcadeLand – The Ultimate Gaming Metaverse

ArcadeLand is placing back control in the users’ hands – the gamers, the builders, the visionaries – with the Ultimate Gaming Metaverse. Hundreds of top-quality games, advanced cross-platform avatars with NFT wearables, and a blockchain-optional UI to make ArcadeLand’s platform easy to use. Welcome to the Ultimate Gaming Metaverse!

ArcadeLand is Coming, Why Do You Need It?

ArcadeLand sees the Metaverse as the natural evolution of the web experience in terms of socializing, gaming, exploring, and learning. While it took nearly a decade to catch on, the world-wide-web quickly gained significant market share while antiquated competitors in the areas of postal, television, newspapers, education, entertainment, and gaming either adapted or were left behind by the new companies that embraced this technology.

For example, what happened to Blockbuster when Netflix came along, and this trend is expected to repeat as the newest generation of Web 3.0 technologies emerge. While P2E games and Metaverse platforms are relatively new to the market, there are still significant barriers to overcome before mainstream audiences can fully embrace them.

Blockchain remains a double-edged sword, in the sense that, although it grants the benefits of ownership, security, and the ability to earn great rewards from playing games; it also represents a significant learning curve. This comes with a number of dangers for new users, and it’s largely seen in a detrimental way due to the many negative media headlines of bad actors within the industry.

Many P2E games in development, and currently on the market, require players to be knowledgeable about blockchain technology. This limits their total addressable from the billions worldwide, down to around roughly 400,000 to 500,000 players, the “niche within a niche” of savvy crypto users who still find time to play such games. User acquisition becomes a battle for these games, as they struggle to compete for adequate DAU numbers within a narrow audience.

While the definition of the Metaverse, according to Wikipedia, is: “a network of 3D virtual worlds focused on social connection” the current offerings fall short of this important network aspect. Leading Metaverse platforms suffer from a lack of compatibility and interconnectivity, which are hallmarks of a “true Metaverse”. They create a restrictive environment where games of high quality cannot exist, as developers are forced to build within them using only the tools provided by the platform. Avatars and their accessories are only compatible with their own platform, and users cannot show off their costumes or treasured digital wearables elsewhere. By all measures of what a fun, interconnected Metaverse should be, they simply come up short.

ArcadeLand is creating a platform that will serve game developers, gamers, and the entire community that supports the future of P2E gaming. Arcadeland is connecting games, guilds, studios, and publishers with players from within and beyond the crypto community accelerating this future and removing the obstacles to mass adoption. Increasing the reach of this rapidly growing industry.

ArcadeLand Will Push the Boundaries of Gaming

A Metaverse must be complete in its offering and for its intended purpose, as it is by nature a platform to host many applications. A true Metaverse is an environment for exploration, socialization, and play. Compatibility and interoperability with a total array of ecosystem products and services are paramount, as the sandbox-style of exclusivity limits the variety, replayability, and quality of the games within. ArcadeLand understands this and has shaped the platform accordingly.

    ArcadeLand will:

    • Feature hundreds of top-quality games
    • Integrate both mainstream and crypto games via SDK
    • Provide virtual land and a No-Code Builder with UNLIMITED potential
    • Offer avatars with NFT accessories compatible with thousands of other games
    • Deliver a holistic and complete gaming ecosystem for users of all types

To address the issue of game quality, ArcadeLand is onboarding top-quality game partners with successful titles from both the mainstream space as well as crypto. The objective is to make the developer’s jobs as easy as possible by providing a comprehensive suite of tools to allow for rapid integration with little labor required.

ArcadeLand can apply its dual-tokenomics model to mainstream games with dynamic rewards and tournament payouts. This allows game owners and users to benefit from an easy to deploy and use P2E model that can be adopted by any type of game.

On the crypto gaming side, ArcadeLand can support the seamless integration of games along with the important token features to allow players to take full advantage of the games and their earning potential.

ArcadeLand provides a safe environment and tools for newcomers with no crypto knowledge to acquire, manage, and sell their NFTs with their built-in wallet and native marketplace. ArcadeLand provides native and easy-to-use interfaces to share updates on social media channels.

Land within ArcadeLand can be developed in over a dozen ways. Builders can create their own shops, entertainment venues, or virtual headquarters for almost any type of business or service. Assets generated via ArcadeLand’s No-Code Builder tools can even be listed and sold on the platform’s marketplace to allow players to monetize their designs and speed up the building process. Games can import all popular file formats of their 3D objects without the need to recreate their designs to use them in their virtual spaces. This expands compatibility and creativity in those who wish to thrive with their plots in the Metaverse.

People love to display their achievements, express their individuality and creative style in real life and virtually. So, what good is clothing you can only wear to one place? ArcadeLand has taken a unique approach by comparison to other existing Metaverses and chose to incorporate one of the most advanced avatar systems on the market.

The tokenized avatar accessories issued are already compatible with 1,750+ other games and that number is increasing weekly. Any costume or wearable created, earned, or purchased in ArcadeLand’s Metaverse will be the players’ to show off in hundreds or thousands of other games on all platforms including AR/VR.

ArcadeLand is taking an inclusive and cooperative approach to bringing in all the best games, partners, and ecosystem-related services needed to create the Ultimate Gaming Metaverse. Whether you’re a gamer, creator, developer, business owner, social butterfly, eSport champion, or some combination of these, you’ll find everything you’re looking for in ArcadeLand.

    Start Getting Pump!

To sum up, ArcadeLand is addressing three of the most critical issues halting the widespread adoption of play-to-earn gaming:

    1. High-Quality Games – They have nearly 200 games available and are actively onboarding more weekly
    2. Ease of Use – Their platform is designed for gamers of all walks of life, not just the crypto-savvy.
    3. Broad Compatibility – Arcadeland prioritizes compatibility, from their avatar system to their various ecosystem partners.

Join ArcadeLand’s social media channels below to stay abreast of developments. There’s much more to reveal about how it all works.

  • Hedget ($HGET): Does it live up to the hype?

Hedget ($HGET): Does it live up to the hype?

Hedget is conquering one area that decentralised finance (DeFi) projects have yet to fully explore- options trading. DeFi is in all honesty still in its infancy, and there is still plenty of infrastructures which could be built to solve problems relating to contract security, liquidation risks, and speed and cost of transactions. Hedget in collaboration with Chromia aims to become the default options trading platform for DeFi tokens.

    Background

Hedget rides on the background of DeFi applications. With DeFi assets growing parabolically and reaching $8.77 billion as of August 2020, it is, without doubt, an area that is rapidly on its way to dominating the crypto market.

Unfortunately, the volatility of cryptocurrency prices is likely to curtail further growth. On the flip side, the risks involved can be minimized by embracing options trading.

The project is headed by Malcolm Lerider, a former Research & Development Manager for NEO blockchain. Others include Serge Lubkin, Ex-marketing lead at Chromia, and Riccardo Sibani, who, among other things, developed concepts and proof of works in Ethereum and has a double degree in Cloud Computing. The protocol’s advisors are Roger Lim, NGC Ventures’ founding partner, and Alex Mizrahi, the founder of several academic papers about Bitcoin. The protocol’s partners include NGC Ventures, FBG Capital, and Chromia.

    What is Hedget?

Hedget is a blockchain-based platform focusing on options trading, with a specific focus on safeguarding users from the fluctuating prices of digital currencies. Options are a unique trading venue since they allow traders to interface with the underlying asset without owning them.

Trading involves buying and selling assets at a predetermined future date and price. Options can either be a call or put. Call options enable the user to buy while put options give users the right to sell. Options traders can bet on the price either going up or down.

The bets can be spread over a period of time, with each having different prices, commonly known as strikes.

Three things are needed when creating an option: (1) the asset being tracked; (2) option type; and (3) maturity/expiry date. The options maturity date on the platform is every Friday at 8:00 UTC+5. A major point to note is that the system applies European options rules. With these rules, an option’s settlement can only be done at expiry and not in-between strikes regardless of whether the price is favorable.

The protocol works with Ethereum smart contracts, Chromia-based decentralized apps (dapps), and client-side wallets.

    How Hedget works
How Hedget works (Image credit: Hedget Twitter)

    Hedget options protocol

Other aspects of the Hedget protocol include collateral and settlement mode.

    Collateral

Here, users have to provide the full collateral for both call and put options. For example, those creating a call option for 20 ETH will be required to provide 20 ETH as collateral while those placing a put option will need to provide an equivalent amount of USDC (USD Coin), or any other supported stable coin.

    Settlement mode

The network supports options settlement in either cash or physical. For physical settlement, the underlying asset, e.g., ETH, is converted to its fiat equivalent at the maturity date. In an ETH call option, the writer swaps ETH for USDC from the holder.

Cash settlements allow the writer to calculate the profit and transfer it to the holder. Settling in cash is advantageous since it can save on transaction fees.

    Use cases of Hedget

The Hedget network is an excellent addition to the world of DeFi, from guarding options traders against the fluctuating prices of cryptocurrencies to increasing capital efficiency for both customers and businesses to hedging lending risks.

Furthermore, the platform can be used:

    As a non-centralized price hedge

Here, users can use the network to hedge against their virtual currency holdings in a decentralized way. They can do this by buying a put option that protects them against reducing the underlying asset prices.

    As protection on lending platforms

Hedget is primed for use by other lending networks to provide security against position liquidation by users. DeFi platforms champion for over-collateralized lending to cover losses in case they occur.

For example, on DeFi platforms such as MakerDAO, users need to put up collateral of 150% in order to borrow. During liquidation, more collateral is auctioned to stabilize DAI prices. Unfortunately, the loss is only reflected on users and not on the platform.

When Hedget is used in combination with MakerDAO, for example, users can select at a time that loans are generated to pay a premium for automatic liquidation.

    To power leveraged trading

The protocol is ideal for traders who don’t flinch at the thought of leveraged trading. Using the protocol, leverage traders benefit from low prices associated with acquiring options compared to directly associating with the tracked asset.

    Hedget token ($HGET)

HGET is an ERC-20 token that Hedget that is used for governance and utility. As a governance token, it settles transaction fees and fund’s asset reserves and general functions. Also, it’s used to avert order book manipulation through order spamming. This, however, requires staking HGET tokens.

HGET tokens have a total supply of 10 million tokens. The usage of these tokens is controlled by the Hedget DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization).

    Hedget token auction

On 1st September 2020 at 13:00 UTC, Hedget will have their public auction for 423,000 HGET tokens (i.e. 4.23% of the total supply). There will be 2 separate auctions with 211,500 HGET in each auction, one auction will have all bids denominated in USDT (ERC20) and the other in Chromia’s CHR (ERC20) token.

Both auctions will have a starting price of USD$1 and run for 11 days in a Convergence Auction format. The Convergent Auction format requires participants to gradually disclose information about their pricing decisions.

The auction timeline will be as follows:

Registry phase (6 days): Apply for the auction on their website, go through the KYC process and register your wallet for the token sale. Then, signal your initial bid price and desired amount of HGET you want to purchase. Participants can change their bid price and quantity for an unlimited number of times though this will incur transaction fees.

Main phase (5 days): Participants can only raise their bid prices or lower the desired token quantity. Note that updating your bid will incur transaction fees and you may be required to deposit additional collateral to support your updated quantity. For an increase in bid prices, they can only increase a specified percentage each day during this phase: Day 1- 90%, Day 2- 70%, Day 3- 50%, Day 4- 30%, Day 5- 10%. During this phase, Hedget will calculate and update participants on the temporary threshold price for the HGET tokens. This is the lowest price where bids which are equal to or above this price are sufficient to buy all the tokens in the sale. So participants can refer to this price and decide if they want to update their bids.

Fulfilment phase (immediately after end of auction): Hedget will finalise the threshold price. For successful bidders, HGET tokens will be sent to them accordingly. If a participants’ bid was below the threshold price or only part of the bid was fulfilled, the collateral/ remaining collateral (as the case may be) will be returned.

For more details on the auction see the guide published by Hedget.

    Hedget and Chromia partnership

Chromia is a blockchain network meant to power a new breed of dapps that would scale beyond what’s currently available. The network brings together blockchain and traditional databases to create a “relational blockchain.”

Hedget exists as a layer on top of Chromia. The “relational blockchain” acts as a second layer on top of the popular blockchain system, Ethereum. A combination of the two platforms leads to Hedget performing settlements on Ethereum, while the trading is done on Chromia.

For example, suppose a user sells call options on Ethereum using Hedget. In that case, Chromia will require the user to deposit and lock funds. After this, they can create several options with varying expiry dates and strikes. However, this will appear as a single transaction on the ETH blockchain.

Read more about Chromia in their White Paper.

    Hedget and Alameda Research

Hedget has formed a strategic partnership with quantitative trading firm Alameda Research, who is also the team behind FTX exchange and Serum decentralised exchange. Alameda Research made a strategic investment of USD $500,000 for 100,000 $HGET out of Hedget’s “Reserve” tokens.

This strategic partnership obviously caused a lot of hype, especially with Alameda’s strong background and the success of FTX Exchange. This in turn boosted people’s positive perceptions on Hedget and is causing a lot of people to fear that they will miss out on getting themselves some HGET tokens.

    Hedget IEO on FTX Exchange

As part of the strategic partnership, Hedget will have an Initial Exchange Offering (IEO) listing on FTX Exchange on 4th September 2020 at 1:00pm (UTC) for 120,000 HGET tokens.

Participants must be at least KYC level 2 and hold tickets for the IEO. Each person has 1 ticket but those with higher average trading volume or FTT holdings may be entitled to more tickets. (manafort.com) Each ticket entitles you to bid for 100 HGET tokens with a minimum bid of $100 USDT ($1 per HGET) and a maximum bid of $500 USDT + 56 FTT ($5 per HGET +56 FTT).

There will be a total of 1,200 accepted tickets who will get the allocation of HGET tokens. If there are more than 1,200 tickets that made the maximum bid, FTX will allocate randomly between these bidders.

For more details check the participation guide.

    Conclusion

With the volatility and the rigidity of current DeFi platforms, Hedget brings much-needed relief. And when used with blockchain-based lending systems, it can prevent automatic liquidation. Hedget’s application in leveraged trading, as well as its ability to hedge against price swings removes the need for trusted third parties. The fact that it is one of the projects Alameda Research had invested into also gives the public some confidence, considering Alameda’s history of success.

DeFi Money Market and DMM Governance ($DMG) guide

Decentralized finance (DeFi) has come a long way since it was first conceptualized. Now, the market has nearly $4 billion worth of assets locked up. And DeFi Money Market (DMM) is one of the most promising protocols that is gaining a lot of traction.

The DMM platform allows users to earn annual yields of 6.25 percent for holding Ethereum-based tokens like USDC and DAI. What makes it even more interesting is that it is backed by real-world assets that create passive income that is greater than the interest owed.

These real-world assets will be tokenized and launched on the Ethereum blockchain tracked by Chainlink’s decentralized oracle network.

Background: Who is the team behind DMM?

DeFi Money Market is a product of the DMM Foundation, which was established in the UAE. The members are a team of veteran experts hailing from academia, the legal and regulatory sector, and fintech.

It is one of the few projects backed by top Silicon Valley venture capitalist Tim Draper.

What is the DeFi Money Market (DMM) Ecosystem?

The DeFi Money Market Ecosystem (DMME) is a decentralized protocol that allows users to earn interest on any Ethereum-based tokens by lending them for real-world assets like real estate, jewelry, automobiles, etc. as collateral. The goal of this ecosystem is to enable anyone in the world to earn consistent and stable interest on their money. Furthermore, their rates are higher than traditional competitors. They currently have an APY (Annual Percentage Yield) of 6.25% for DAI and USDC accounts, which is above most traditional alternatives.

DMME aims to seize the trillion-dollar opportunity that is currently resting on centralized finance (CeFi) companies. And it does this by blending real-world assets with digital assets, which enables them to create a more robust and transparent system.

DMM Protocol: What is it and how does it work?

The DMM Protocol can be split into three parts: an array of Ethereum smart contracts, a treasury management system, and a data feed that allows off-chain data to stream into the smart contract.

These three components blend to form the DMM Ecosystem and allow the creation of DMM tokens backed by off-chain real-world assets.

The DMM protocol currently supports DAI and USDC. For this walkthrough, let’s use USDC. First, a user deposits USDC to the protocol. Then mUSDC is minted. The dollar amount will be used to provide loans collateralized with real-world assets.

And once the loan gets paid, the interest will be deposited back to the system. Then, users can convert their mUSDC to USDC plus interest.

    DMG Governance ($DMG) token

$DMG is the governance token of the platform. It allows the community to regulate and grow the DMM ecosystem, as well as its protocol. As the DMM community grows globally, DMG is paramount to encouraging active participation and mitigating centralization risk.

DMG holders have the capability to govern the parameters of the protocol as well as decisions on asset allocation.

The token is a fork of Compound Finance’s governance asset $COMP but with extra functionality such as “native burn.”

    DMG token distribution

The DMM ecosystem has a total of 250,000,000 DMG tokens. The supply distribution is as follows:

    • 40% will be allocated to the DMM Foundation for future development, support, and other general functions
    • 30% will be sold in several public token offerings
    • 30% will be allocated as a reserve for paying developers, partners, as well as other protocols for integration and growth of DMM’s decentralized network

At present, 60% of the total supply of DMG has been time-locked in smart contracts with different locking periods.

    DeFi Money Market Account

A DeFi Money Market Account (DMMA) is a new DeFi native asset class that enables any holder of Ethereum-based tokens to earn interest from real-world assets represented on the blockchain.

In other words, DMMAs are technically ERC-20 tokens that get created when we swap an Ethereum token into DMM tokens called mAssets.

    DMM DAO

A DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) is an organization where the decisions regarding the rules of the system are written in code and voted on by its members.

One of the core ideas of the DMME is that every stakeholder in the network should be able to take part in the decision-making process regularly without the need for permission. Initially, the DMM DAO members will consist of the core team and community members. To be part of the DAO, you have to be a holder of $DMG tokens, which gives you voting rights to the system.

The DMM DAO is one of the few DAOs that is already generating revenue through its yield taken from real-world asset loans. The value of all assets amounts to roughly $8.7 million with active collateralization of 380%. Furthermore, the team anticipates that DMG tokens, not to mention the entire DMM protocol itself, to be totally distributed and decentralized a year from now.

    Conclusion

In order to succeed, DMM ultimately needs to fully decentralize the traditional financial system. Bridging real-world assets to the Ethereum blockchain is no easy task, but DMM is on its way to successfully execute its goal by using the right tools and partnering with the right organizations. The tokenization of physical assets will bolster DeFi and entire crypto space and possibly take a huge bite from the trillions of dollars worth of capital from legacy financial systems.
