TAOCAT airdrop status in 2026
The original TAOCAT community distribution is over. TAOCAT is an existing Base token rather than an upcoming airdrop, and we found no current claim window or official late-claim page. The historical distribution was described as automatic, so a website asking past participants to connect a wallet and “unlock” TAOCAT should be treated as suspicious.
| Item | Verified status |
|---|---|
| Token | TAOCat by Virtuals (TAOCAT) |
| Network | Base |
| Official contract | 0x7A5f5CcD46EBd7aC30615836D988ca3BD57412b3 |
| Decimals | 18 |
| Maximum supply | 1 billion TAOCAT |
| Original community airdrop | Historical; no manual claim was required |
| Current public claim | None verified |
Do not confuse the community distribution with Gate's separate 1.5 million TAOCAT Startup promotion. That exchange event accepted subscriptions from 31 December 2024 at 07:00 UTC until 2 January 2025 at 07:00 UTC, with trading scheduled for 2 January at 11:00 UTC. It has also ended.
Official TAOCAT contract and wallet import
The official Base contract is 0x7A5f5CcD46EBd7aC30615836D988ca3BD57412b3. BaseScan identifies it as “TAOCat by Virtuals,” shows 18 decimals and reports a maximum supply of 1 billion tokens.
- Switch the wallet to Base.
- Choose the wallet's import-token option.
- Paste the full contract address from BaseScan, not an address copied from a reply, advertisement or search result.
- Confirm that the wallet displays TAOCAT with 18 decimals before saving.
A ticker is not a unique identifier. Anyone can deploy another token called TAOCAT on Base or a different chain. A zero balance after importing the legitimate contract does not prove that a claim is waiting elsewhere; it may simply mean the address was not included in the historical distribution.
What was the TAOCAT airdrop?
TAO Cat was created by the Masa team as an AI-agent project using Masa's Bittensor data infrastructure and Virtuals Protocol's token ecosystem. The launch materials allocated 15% of the maximum supply to an initial community airdrop and 30% to future community rewards. The other published categories were 15% for liquidity and marketing and 40% described as a market buy at launch.
The January 2025 version of this guide said MASA holders, stakers and community contributors could be eligible and that tokens were delivered automatically on Base. Those statements describe a past snapshot and distribution; they are not instructions for earning TAOCAT now. Public sources do not provide a current form for correcting an old eligibility decision or a deadline for a late claim.
The archived guide also suggested that Masa testnet participation would “likely” qualify. That was an expectation, not a guaranteed eligibility rule. Wallet activity and a token balance are the safest evidence of whether a specific address actually received the distribution.
What is TAO Cat?
TAO Cat is marketed as a self-improving AI persona built by Masa. Its launch description says Masa's Bittensor Subnet 42 supplies real-time social data, Subnet 19 supplies language models, and Subnet 59 provides an arena in which agents compete for TAO rewards. Virtuals Protocol was described as the home for the TAOCAT token.
Those descriptions explain the project's positioning, but owning TAOCAT is not the same as owning Bittensor's TAO token, MASA or Virtuals Protocol's VIRTUAL token. They are separate assets with different contracts, uses and risks. The TAOCAT contract is on Base; it is not a native Bittensor subnet token.
TAOCAT tokenomics and important caveats
| Published allocation | Share |
|---|---|
| Initial community airdrop | 15% |
| Future community rewards | 30% |
| Liquidity and marketing | 15% |
| Market buy at launch | 40% |
Gate's launch notice also called TAOCAT a memecoin and said 100% of supply was circulating on day one. Read that alongside the allocation labels rather than assuming all tokens were distributed to independent public holders. BaseScan currently shows a 1 billion maximum and circulating supply, but “circulating” does not reveal how concentrated balances are or whether every allocation has been sold.
TAOCAT is a speculative AI-agent memecoin. A fixed maximum supply does not guarantee liquidity, development, exchange support or value. The contract is a minimal proxy matching Virtuals' AgentToken implementation, which makes the implementation and platform design relevant to token risk as well as the visible token address.
How to check an old TAOCAT distribution safely
- Open your public address on BaseScan without connecting the wallet.
- Review the ERC-20 token holdings and token-transfer history for the official contract.
- If the token is present on-chain but hidden in the wallet, import the verified contract manually.
- If no transfer exists, do not pay a fee or approve a token allowance to a third-party “claim support” site.
- Use only links reached from Masa's official website or the verified TAO Cat social account for any new announcement.
Original January 2025 guide (archived)
The following copy is preserved for historical context. Its airdrop language is no longer current, and the status and safety information above supersedes it.
TAO Cat ($TAOCAT) is Bittensor’s first self-improving AI agent. Currently, there is a partnership between Masa and Virtuals Protocol to do a TAO Cat ($TAOCAT) token airdrop campaign. Here is our TAO Cat ($TAOCAT) token airdrop guide.

What is TAO Cat ($TAOCAT)?
TAO Cat ($TAOCAT) is Bittensor’s first self-improving AI agent, powered by Bittensor and Virtuals Protocol. It is created by the team from Masa and operates on a decentralized AI ecosystem. TAO Cat is known for its witty personality and real-time improvements, driven by interactions on X (formerly Twitter). The TAO Cat ($TAOCAT) token is listed on several cryptocurrency exchanges, including KuCoin, Gate.io, and MEXC. TAO Cat has also received an investment from DWFLabs.
Eligibility criteria for the TAO Cat ($TAOCAT) token airdrop?
TAO Cat ($TAOCAT) is Masa’s flagship AI agent, so loyal supporters of Masa would receive a TAO Cat ($TAOCAT) token airdrop. Those who held or staked the Masa ($MASA) token or contributed to its community and ecosystem were eligible to receive the TAO Cat ($TAOCAT) token airdrop.
How to get the TAO Cat ($TAOCAT) token airdrop?
- Check eligiblity Eligibility for the airdrop included those who held or staked the Masa ($MASA) token or actively contributed to its community and ecosystem. Therefore, those who participated in the Masa Finance testnet airdrop, you will likely receive the TAO Cat ($TAOCAT) token airdrop.
- Check TAO Cat ($TAOCAT) token airdrop The TAO Cat ($TAOCAT) tokens were automatically airdropped into your wallet on the Base mainnet network. So you do not need to separately claim your airdrop.
Frequently asked questions
Is the TAOCAT airdrop still active?
No current public claim or new-user airdrop can be verified. The community distribution described in the original guide and Gate's separate Startup event are historical.
What is the official TAOCAT contract address?
The Base contract is 0x7A5f5CcD46EBd7aC30615836D988ca3BD57412b3. Verify all 42 characters on BaseScan.
Do I need to claim the original TAOCAT airdrop?
The original guide reported automatic distribution to eligible wallets on Base, not a manual claim. Do not connect to an unofficial retroactive-claim page.
How can I see whether my wallet received TAOCAT?
Look up the public address on BaseScan and search its token-transfer history for the official TAOCAT contract. This can be done without connecting or signing.
What is TAOCAT's maximum supply?
BaseScan and the launch announcement report a maximum supply of 1 billion TAOCAT with 18 decimals.
Is TAOCAT on Bittensor?
TAO Cat uses and markets Bittensor-related infrastructure, but the TAOCAT fungible token itself is an ERC-20 on Base. It is not Bittensor's native TAO token.
Was Gate's TAOCAT airdrop the same event?
No. Gate ran a separate 1.5 million-token promotion for qualifying GT holders from 31 December 2024 to 2 January 2025. That promotion has ended.
Can I recover TAOCAT if I was not eligible?
No verified public appeal or late-claim process is available. A third party cannot change an old snapshot, and paying a recovery fee is a strong scam warning.
Is every token named TAOCAT genuine?
No. Names and tickers can be copied. Network and full contract address, not the TAOCAT symbol alone, identify this token.
Is TAOCAT risk-free because its supply is fixed?
No. Supply is only one factor. TAOCAT remains exposed to smart-contract, liquidity, concentration, platform, development and extreme market-volatility risks.
