DeFiLlama announced a Trueo partnership on October 20, bringing markets on protocol revenue and exploits to its analytics audience. Its announcement describes exploit markets as a way to hedge risk. For depositors, the practical question is how closely the bet matches the position they want to protect.
An exploit outcome pays according to a defined event. It does not automatically reimburse the amount a wallet loses. That gap is the most useful way to assess the launch: a new tool for trading a specific risk, with several conditions between buying a position and receiving a useful offset.
What launched
DeFiLlama’s announcement, posted at 18:25 UTC on October 20, names revenue markets for Hyperliquid, Pump, Aero, Uniswap, Collector Crypt and Papertrade. It also names exploit markets covering Aave and Morpho, alongside weekly and monthly questions about the largest hack. That puts the announcement inside the last 24 hours at publication. Source checked October 21, 2026.
The official predictions page, checked October 21, lists questions covering Aave or Morpho bad debt or exploits during October 2026. It says Trueo operates the markets, trading and resolution. Being featured beside familiar analytics does not turn an outcome price into DeFiLlama’s own risk assessment.
Three ways the hedge can miss
The event may differ from your loss. A depositor might suffer a loss through a compromised wallet, another application or an unrelated asset depeg. Whether any of those events qualifies depends on the individual market’s rules. Conversely, an event could qualify while a particular depositor loses nothing.
The calendar may differ from your holding period. Someone holding a lending position beyond an October market’s event window still has exposure after that window ends. Rolling a hedge would require another suitable market and another executable trade; its availability cannot be assumed.
The payout may differ from the loss size. Trueo’s minting and redemption documentation, checked October 21, says a winning outcome token redeems for one TYD, while the losing outcome expires worthless. The payout follows token quantity, rather than an assessment of the buyer’s damages.
These are forms of basis risk: the protection and the underlying exposure do not move together perfectly. A trader could deliberately accept that mismatch, but needs to size and price it explicitly. Buying a token labelled with a protocol’s name does not establish that match.
Read the rules before reading the percentage
Trueo’s market documentation, checked October 21, says the question, approved sources and detailed resolution rules are committed onchain when a market is initialized. Those fields are the starting point for understanding what a position actually buys.
The same documentation distinguishes the earliest resolution timestamp from a trading cutoff. A visible date alone therefore should not be treated as a complete explanation of expiry or settlement.
Its resolution guide, also checked October 21, describes a bonded outcome proposal followed by a 12-hour challenge window. An undisputed eligible proposal finalizes after that window. A hedge that eventually pays may still fail to provide cash at the moment a depositor needs it.
Before treating an exploit position as protection, check:
- The exact incident definition and named evidence sources.
- The event window against the intended deposit holding period.
- The execution quote for the full intended size, including costs.
- The collateral being redeemed and the path to accessing it after resolution.
A market price is a trading quote
DeFiLlama’s page says YES and NO are separate pool quotes and may not total 100%. It also explicitly distinguishes prices from its own forecasts. Reading one displayed percentage as an actuarial probability discards that market structure.
For a prospective buyer, the executable quote matters more than the dashboard headline. If adding a meaningful position moves the price substantially, the cost of protection changes with its size. Exiting early also depends on the trade available then.
The launch makes protocol fundamentals and security events easier to trade directly. Its value as a hedge will depend on precise rules, usable liquidity and timely settlement. Depositors should compare those terms with their actual exposure before counting any potential payout as protection.
