Reviewed 13 August 2026: KuCoin remains a large global exchange, but it is no longer accurate to describe it as anonymous. New users have needed identity verification to access KuCoin products and services since August 2023. The product descriptions below are retained as a historical archive.

KuCoin in 2026: what changed?

KuCoin reported more than 45 million users and over 1,600 listed assets in its 2026 first-half review. It continues to offer spot and futures trading, margin, P2P, Earn, payments and Web3 services. Many spot pairs use a 0.1% maker/taker baseline, but actual rates, leverage, products and deposit methods vary by asset and jurisdiction.

The regulatory picture is mixed. In January 2025, KuCoin operator Peken Global pleaded guilty in the United States to operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business, agreed to nearly $300 million in penalties and agreed that KuCoin would leave the US market for at least two years. Canada’s FINTRAC later imposed a C$19.55 million administrative penalty; KuCoin appealed. In Europe, Austria’s FMA granted KuCoin EU a MiCA authorisation in November 2025. The FMA lifted a new-business ban in May 2026 after key compliance roles were refilled, but said KuCoin EU still could not commence operations because other supervisory conditions remained outstanding. Users should verify the latest local status directly with their regulator.

Security claims also need context. KuCoin disclosed a major hot-wallet compromise in 2020 and said affected users were reimbursed. It now publishes proof-of-reserves data and independent-audit reports, but proof of reserves is a point-in-time asset check—not a complete audit of liabilities, governance or operational risk.

Who Should Choose KuCoin?

KuCoin is a user-friendly cryptocurrency exchange platform that is simple to use. From making deposits to completing trades, everything is straightforward. The platform also has features to analyze pricing trends, such as candlestick bars. However, the average trading volume at KuCoin is in the tens of millions, which is a lot less than bigger exchanges like Binance. This could be a problem as low trading volumes can sometimes mean that there is not enough liquidity. KuCoin is a great option for those looking to exchange small amounts, but for larger quantities, it might not be the best choice. Ultimately, if the cryptocurrency you want is only listed on KuCoin, then you will have no choice but to use them.

Conclusion

KuCoin is a popular cryptocurrency exchange that offers a wide range of coins and tokens. It has a user-friendly interface and low fees, making it a great choice for both beginners and experienced traders. KuCoin also offers a mobile app, allowing users to access the markets on the go. The exchange is also secure, with two-factor authentication and a secure wallet. All in all, KuCoin is a great choice for those looking to buy and sell cryptocurrencies. 90/100
KuCoin reported 1,600+ listed assets in its 2026 first-half review, giving it one of the broadest altcoin selections among major CEXs.

Liquidity

85/100
Strong volume across majors and alts, though trailing Binance/Bybit; reasonable order-book depth on top pairs.

Regulatory Compliance

68/100
The 2025 US guilty plea and Canadian penalty weigh against progress elsewhere; Austria's FMA still barred KuCoin EU from commencing operations in May 2026.

User Experience

A broad product set and 0.1% baseline on many spot pairs are competitive, but KYC and feature availability vary by jurisdiction.

KuCoin\u2019s altcoin breadth and low fees are offset by regulatory clouds and lingering trust questions from past legal troubles.
